Aurora supports school feeding programme

08.03.18

In February Aurora Foundation signed an agreement with the Swiss – Sierra Leone Development Foundation to support a school-feeding programme in the Magbenteh Community Boarding School.

The school was founded in 2016 and soon it became evident that a school-feeding programme was needed. Children are coming to school on an empty stomach, which is not conducive to learning and therefore the level of education ingrained.

A specific focus will be on the nutritional aspect of the feeding programme in regards to the quality of ingredients used in the meals provided, ensuring vitamins, fat, calcium and protein, in particular, are incorporated into the diet.

In Sierra Leone malnutrition is extremely common amongst children. According to a study done by the World Food Programme, 30% of children under 5 years old were facing chronic malnutrition in 2014.

The school is based in the Bombali district in Sierra Leone and the children are from the most deprived surrounding villages including those left orphaned by Ebola.
