Hannah Samura
JEWELRY AND ACCESSORIES MAKER

Hannah is a 45 year old artisan and businesswoman who started working with Aurora a few years ago. She has had only seven years of formal schooling, but you wouldn’t be able to tell from that clever, creative, and ambitious woman. One of her latest achievements is the design of bracelets that Barnaheill – Save the Children in Iceland ordered for their fundraising campaign and into which she has also put a lot of hard work producing. Hannah has four children, and the work she has received through Aurora is meaningful for her in terms of helping her out with her business, providing for the children, and financing their formal education. Furthermore, she has bought a small piece of land to build on and is happy and grateful for the assignments she receives, especially as it helps her take care of her children.

Dorcas James
Potter

Dorcas, currently an apprentice at the LSP, graduated from the LSP pottery training program in February 2021. She is 29 years old and is married with one child. She also provides for her younger sister and a nephew who lives with her. Dorcas is an enthusiastic potter and is very grateful for the work Aurora has provided her with at the pottery, as it gives her a reason to leave the house and be active. She says that before she started working at LSP, she did not have much to do, was inactive at home, but now she comes to work every day and is happy to be leading an active life. She is, furthermore, glad to provide for her family with the money she now receives. Dorcas went to school but quit after formal basic education when she was a teenager and is not confident in her reading and writing skills. She is though very proud of herself now, of her achievements, the person she has become, and that she is no longer dependent on her husband but can stand financially independent on her own. She moreover claims that the chance to learn and work with Aurora and LSP has been life-changing for her.
