Since 2003, the Icelandic Chess Club Hrókurinn (e. Rook) has worked diligently in introducing the game of chess to the people of Greenland. Hitherto the game has been almost unknown in the country. The members of the club have travelled to many of Greenland’s towns and villages organising various chess related events. Annually, the club tries to visit Scoresby Bay which is perhaps the most isolated inhabited place in the Arctic.

Aurora Foundation’s grant enabled the club to travel to Scoresby in 2014 where it hosted its annual chess tournament.
