The Kraumur Music Award ceremony took place today for the fourteenth time. Last year it was held outdoors and in a window of a shop on Laugavegur due to the pandemic but this year it took place at Mengi.
Seven artists and music bands received the Kraumur Music Awards for their records this year and amongst previous recipients since the first awarding are Hildur Guðnadóttir, Daníel Bjarnason, Hjaltalín, Lay Low, FM Belfast, Retro Stefson, Moses Hightower and Sóley.
The Kraumur Music Awards are given to the Icelandic music records that are thought to have excelled in the past year in terms of quality, originality and ambition. A great diversity characterizes this year’s awardee group but they include varieties as pop, extreme rock, punk, jazz, house and dance music.

This is for the first time since 2013 and second time since the start of the Kraumur Music Awards that seven artists and music bands receive the prize but traditionally only six records are awarded. As the past year has been exceptionally rich in music record release the panel decided to award seven records this year.
The Kraumur Music Awards are meant to introduce and support record release of Icelandic musicians and often they are young artists, taking the first steps of their music careers. The awards are not bound by any musical variety or categories and since the beginning around 70 artists have been awarded for their records.

The panel consists of nine people that have an extended experience of music in the media, playing music and working with musicians. On the panel this year were Árni Matthíasson (chairman), Arnar Eggert Thoroddsen, Helga Þórey Jónsdóttir, Lovísa Rut Kristjánsdóttir, María Lilja Þrastardóttir, Óli Dóri, Rósa Birgitta Ísfeld, Trausti Júlíusson and Þorbjörg Roach Gunnarsdóttir.
