The third ICT project rolled out

11.11.17

Aurora finished yet another successful free ICT course in Freetown, Sierra Leone now in November. This was our third free ICT course aimed at supporting young Sierra Leoneans in improving their ICT skills (Information, Communication, and Technology). This followed successful two other ICT projects rolled out in 2016.

The project was done in cooperation with SAMSKIP as before but we also had some new partners. Islandsbanki, one of the main Banks in Iceland donated 70 computers to this project. In addition, two staff of Islandsbanki traveled to Sierra Leone and participated in the delivering of the course. In Sierra Leone, we also had some new partners Revolutum, who worked on this project with us every step of the way and PCL International who supported us with a fantastic teacher.

There were well over 300 applicants for the training but only 70 seats available for this week-long course. Aurora is extremely proud the have been able to provide this third free training course with its partners and hopes to be able to do more in the future as the demand for space was overwhelming.

The students were both beginners and those who had some experience working with computers. As before they were taught how to use Microsoft Applications and how to use the internet in the best and most sensible way.

The participants completed the week-long course with a presentation showcasing their newly acquired skills. At the graduation ceremony all students received a Certificate and Due to the generosity of our partner Islandsbanki, each participant was allowed to take home a computer in order to continue improving their IT skills. There was a lot of cheering when this amazing surprise was announced!
