On the Balcony with Sorie Kondi – A Night of Music, Poetry, and Community at Aurora House

12.04.25

On Friday evening, April 11th, the Aurora Foundation had the pleasure of hosting an unforgettable cultural gathering at Aurora House, 35 Fraser Street, Freetown. From 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, our balcony came alive with rhythm, words, and shared connection during the special event: On the Balcony with Sorie Kondi.

The evening brought together a vibrant mix of music, spoken word, and community spirit. Headlining the event was none other than Sorie Kondi, Sierra Leone’s renowned master of the kondi (thumb piano). His moving blend of traditional rhythms and contemporary soundscapes created a truly unique and powerful performance that resonated with everyone present.

Also featured were incredible performances from emerging local talents:
takeameasy, a singer-songwriter who has previously collaborated with the Aurora Foundation. His music includes his first song on Spotify, a milestone in his growing career.
Meme, whose melodic voice added soul to the night
Oseh, a spoken word poet whose poignant delivery added depth and emotion to the experience

The evening was curated in collaboration with long-time Aurora partner Tennson Ncube, also known as Sphongo for Jabulani Music, whose continued dedication to the arts and cultural expression in Freetown played a key role in the event’s success.

2As the music flowed and voices carried into the night, guests also had the opportunity to browse and shop at our Sweet Salone pop-up, which was open throughout the evening. Many took the chance to engage with our handmade products and support local artisans and makers—a beautiful way to connect community, culture, and craftsmanship.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended and shared this special moment with us. The energy, creativity, and sense of togetherness were truly inspiring.

Stay tuned for more exciting events at Aurora House—this is only the beginning.
