Aurora Foundation is proud to have once again supported Kai, a powerful theatrical production by Se Theatre Art, performed this April at the scenic Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Freetown. Our continued partnership with Se Theatre Art reflects our commitment to nurturing creativity and cultural expression in Sierra Leone.
Se Theatre Art is one of the few theatre collectives in the country, with a bold mission to establish a thriving theatrical landscape across Africa. Known for productions such as Ijaye (Nigeria, 2016), The Suitcase (Sierra Leone, 2019), and The Incorruptible Judge (2022), the group has gained recognition for its thoughtful storytelling and its dedication to social impact through the arts.
Kai is a stirring narrative that explores the complexities of inter- and intra-tribal conflict, brought to life by a talented young cast. It blends historical reflection with artistic innovation, inviting audiences to think deeply about Sierra Leone’s past and present. The first performance, held in December 2023 at New Alex’s Bar, marked a milestone for the group. This year’s follow-up performance at Tacugama reaffirmed the production’s cultural significance and was warmly received by the community.
Aurora Foundation believes in the transformative power of the arts. Through initiatives like this, we hope to help foster cultural understanding, provide opportunities for youth in the creative industries, and support platforms that speak to the shared human experience.
We are honoured to be part of this journey and look forward to seeing Se Theatre Art continue to grow and inspire.
