Spotlight on Progress: Abubakarr Sesay in the ILO Opportunity Salone Programme

We are delighted to announce an exciting milestone in the ILO’s Opportunity Salone Programme, an initiative funded by the European Union and implemented in close partnership with the Aurora Foundation. As part of the programme’s goal to strengthen Sierra Leone’s agri-business value chain, eight promising small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been carefully selected to receive tailored support to grow, innovate, and create lasting impact.

One of these standout businesses is Agro-Palm Investment, founded by the passionate and visionary Abubakarr Sesay. Based in Foindu, Kenema District, Mr. Sesay and his team are committed to producing high-quality palm kernel oil and related products using environmentally responsible methods that benefit both people and planet.

Agro-Palm’s mission is clear: to be a leading producer of sustainable palm kernel oil in Sierra Leone, while empowering local communities, protecting ecosystems, and contributing to national economic growth. The business offers a range of products including palm kernel oil, palm kernel cake, soap, cream, Vaseline, and graisse—all proudly made in Sierra Leone, for Sierra Leone.

As part of the programme, Mr. Sesay will be among the selected entrepreneurs pitching their businesses during the Opportunity Salone Pitch Event and Exhibition, taking place on April 15 and 16 at the Wusum Hotel in Makeni. This event promises to be an inspiring gathering of innovators, investors, partners, and supporters, all coming together to celebrate local entrepreneurship and explore new opportunities for collaboration and growth.

At Aurora Foundation, we are proud to walk alongside these changemakers, providing the support and visibility they need to thrive. By investing in SMEs like Agro-Palm Investment, we are not only strengthening our agricultural sector, but also building a future that is more inclusive, resilient, and locally driven.

We encourage everyone to follow this exciting journey, support these businesses, and help us shine a light on Sierra Leone’s growing spirit of innovation.
