From 22–26 September 2025, 33 returnees (comprising 15 women and 18 men) came together at Aurora House, 35 Fraser Street, Pipeline Road, Freetown to participate in a transformative training workshop under the Return and Reintegration initiative. The program was implemented through the joint efforts of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the European Union (EU), and the MRRP.
This five-day capacity-building session was designed to support returnees in their journey toward economic independence by equipping them with the practical tools and knowledge required to successfully start and manage their own businesses.
The training emphasized interactive and inclusive learning, where participants actively engaged in group discussions, real-life business simulations, team-building activities, and guided self-reflection sessions. The approach encouraged collaboration and peer learning while building critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Key themes explored during the week included:
-
Mental resilience and well-being in the entrepreneurial journey
-
Foundations of business planning and financial literacy
-
Innovative strategies for enterprise development and sustainability
Throughout the week, participants not only developed concrete business ideas but also grew in self-confidence and entrepreneurial mindset. The atmosphere was one of encouragement, growth, and shared ambition.
By the end of the workshop, the 33 participants graduated with a deeper understanding of the path ahead, ready to take their next steps with determination and hope. The initiative continues to serve as a vital platform for returnees to rebuild their lives, create new opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
