In a recent interview on the Saidu Paul Show on AYV, Bai Conteh — founder of Brook Clean Soap and one of our standout Startup Accelerator participants — shared his inspiring journey of resilience, innovation, and impact.

While we’ve shared Bai’s story before, this interview offered a deeper, more personal look into how he turned a simple idea into a thriving business. Bai began making soap in 2018/2019, after learning the craft from visiting Ghanaians in Sierra Leone. Motivated by the high youth unemployment rate, he decided not to wait for a job — but to create one.

Through community research, Bai discovered growing concern over the harmful chemicals in everyday soaps. This insight sparked the launch of Brook Clean Soap: a natural, skin-friendly alternative made from locally sourced nut oil and ingredients. Based in Lungi and now available in Freetown, the soap offers a healthier option for Sierra Leonean families.

What started as a side project has become Bai’s full-time focus — growing from a team of two to eight employees, including marketers, producers, transporters, and finance staff. The ripple effects of his business extend further, supporting local suppliers and boosting the surrounding economy.

During the interview, Bai credited Aurora Foundation’s Startup Accelerator Program (IR Bootcamp) and the ILO Opportunity Salone Program for playing key roles in his business development. Their support, he said, helped him turn his vision into a structured, scalable enterprise.

Bai’s story is a testament to the power of entrepreneurship to drive change — not only creating jobs but also offering safer products and strengthening communities. We’re proud to walk alongside entrepreneurs like Bai and excited to see where his journey takes him next. If you missed the interview, we highly recommend tuning in for a dose of inspiration.
