Lettie Stuart Pottery Centre in Sierra Leone has recently acquired their first brand-new electric potters wheel. The centre, which has been operating using manual kickwheels since their inception, purchased the wheel using funds earned from their own pottery sales. This represents a substantial achievement in the centre’s growth and production capacity. They were thrilled to receive the wheel, recognizing its potential to transform their work.
Creating each pottery piece on a manual kickwheel previously required significant time, which limited the number of items they could produce each day. The introduction of the electric wheel transforms this process, allowing multiple pieces to be crafted in just minutes and significantly increasing production efficiency.
The team is genuinely excited about what this means for their work and the future of the centre, and they remain committed to producing high-quality pottery. Aurora Foundation is proud to support local artisans by facilitating access to essential equipment that strengthens sustainability and innovation.
